Went to a Deere planter clinic a couple weeks ago. As always they talked about the newest stuff, their new electric drive planters and end with a minute on older stuff.

Now to buy any new Deere planter you have to have a tractor with a 4600 display to run it or buy a 4640 display to run it at $25,000 for all activations and fees. It's a lease no ownership on software.
Sweet, not.

The questions is when did there E planter come out? How reliable were/are they. Newer better than the first models? Where do the get there power from, generator on the planter? I know I should have asked at the meeting but didn't even think of it.

I guess the concept sounds good, but very expensive.

I know a lot of questions, bored on a rainy, snowy night. Shimmy1

I'm sick of the brand thing. Used to be back-up, drop the pin in, hook up hydraulics, plug in the cord, and away you go. Didn't matter what color the tractor was. Now, if you want a green one behind a non-green tractor, or a red one behind a non-red tractor, you are SOL unless you pay to play. AND, as of right now, if you want to have Climate, you can't even access a red one. Found that out last week. They say it's possible to transfer data via thumbdrive, but it's going to be complicated. jd_erd

We are too poor/cheap but was told a pto generator for electrical power. You would have to confirm from someone else. Fortunateman

We ended up ordering a 1775 as stripped as you could get it and put all precision on. One of the main reasons was our precision dealer is way more helpful when it comes to customer support. The Deere dealer wants to open up a w/o on everything and charge you to the moon and back. CASE3594

Not sure about all that. I’ve got a 2150 planter being pulled with a JD 8295R that didn’t cost the customer a dime more than it would’ve running it on a red tractor. Outside of a harness to feed gps to the 700 from the star fire receiver.

As far as climate goes, not sure of all the ins and outs because we aren’t a climate dealer. But I know of at least one customer that is going on his second year running field view on a 1250 planter with red tractor and has had no problems. Excalibur

I purchased a 1770, with some Precision stuff. My plan is to pay planter off, then when I need a new planter, I’ll just strip the toolbar, and put on the lastest aftermarket goodies. Way way way more cost effective than a brand new planter. Shimmy1

Fieldview works with a 1250 because the software has been hacked. The 2150, not so much. CASE3594

My understanding of how field view works is that it scrubs the CAN system for information. I don’t know exactly the science behind that, but I don’t know where the software would have much to do with it. The planter software for the 2150 is different than the 12xx, but the display software is the same. Also, nothing on the CAN is different. Possibly different language between planter and display, but I don’t see where that would be hard for a company that has deciphered everyone else’s messaging to figure out. Shimmy1

They did say it might be possible eventually, just not now. They did say something to the effect of PP and Case co-engineered the electric system, and now that PP has been sold to Agco, there might be a legal issue? gbfarmer

I believe it was in 2015 that the exact emerge and max emerge 5e planters came out. Up until this year's model you can run them with 2630 display. We have an exact emerge with hydraulic down force and it is the most accurate planter I have been around. Spacing and depth control are perfect. For what it is worth, our crop consultant says it is the most evenly spaced and evenly emerged fields he sees. We do not run at 10 mph, but do plant most fields (ones without too many rocks) around 7.5-8 mph. The generator is driven from the power beyond on the tractor. I am glad we got ours before the conversion to the 4640 display. We variable rate most of our corn and the electric drive is much faster and better for that. jdbob8100

Precision makes conversions to match the Exact Emerge so just go to them & have the almost same thing on your older planter.

Fred. I just have to ask where the $25,000 figure comes from? The 4640 is $3995 and the subscription is $1700 a year. Help me understand what I am missing. pbutler

I can't validate the Deere costs, but I was able to buy AgLeader OnCommand 1200, ant, steering, cabling, hydraulic generator and 16 motors for right at 25k. Everything-soup to nuts to run planter and autosteer.

Last season was first year with it-after running it I can't imagine going back to mechanical drive-so much simpler.

It’s each activation along the way that gets you. Autosteer, section control, etc etc etc. I could be wrong but that’s my understanding of how Deere is working this game. Also I don’t think the activations are transferable anymore. Chad H

You can use the 4640 as just a planter monitor and continue using a 2630 for steering, documentation, etc. Deere is still making 2630s and has not announced that they will be stopping anytime soon. Fred

Just talked to a guy who bought a E planter. He had to buy the 4640 with all subscriptions for 5 years were $25,000. Yes I embellished the dollar amount by not saying the years. I didn't get into what he got for subscriptions either, auto steer, row shut offs, RTK? Still a pile to add on. JAnderson

I bet a lot of that cost would be for a 6000 globe with rtk. I thought a 3000 was about 12-15k setup for rtk and I’m sure a 6000 would be just as much or kore GOOSEPILOT

Does John Deere Make an Electric Riding Lawn Mower?

Interest in electric vehicles has continued to increase over recent years. With more people interested in “going green” and reducing their carbon footprint, John Deere is joining the electric revolution and offering their first fully electric residential lawn mower, available for purchase in 2023. Continue reading to learn more about John Deere’s new electric riding lawn mower and what it has to offer your property.

What electric riding mower models are available from John Deere?

John Deere is adding to their well-known residential line of ZTrak™ mowers with the Z370R Electric ZTrak™. This is a residential-size, zero-turn mower. While John Deere has plans to offer a full line of battery-powered residential lawn mowers, the Z370R Electric is the first to be released. Keep an eye out, as more models will be available in the future.

How does the electric mower work?

The Z370R Electric mower works and offers the same performance you’ve come to expect from John Deere’s lawn mowers, except it is powered by a 3.2-kWh (3.56 kWh maximum) sealed lithium-ion battery. Charge your mower by plugging a standard extension cord into a 110-volt grounded outlet. The battery does not need to be removed from the mower to charge, and there is no special charger to purchase. Once your mower is fully charged, you are ready to go.

What kind of power does an electric mower offer?

Want more information on electric bike 8000w? Feel free to contact us.

The electric Z370R ZTrak offers excellent power to mow your lawn efficiently. The 58 Volt lithium-ion battery operates a dual electric motor transmission that provides enough power to mow up to 2 acres with a full charge. With forward speeds up to 7 mph and reverse speeds up to 3.5 mph, you can mow your lawn at the same speeds as a gas-powered mower.

What maintenance does an electric mower require?

John Deere electric mowers might not have oil or filter change needs, but they still require some maintenance to keep them in proper working condition and increase their lifespan.

Battery maintenance – Since a lithium-ion battery powers the mower, it is crucial to keep it charged after each use and store it in a cool, dry place.

Electrical connections – Electric mowers include multiple electrical connections. Routinely check that your connections are secure and show no signs of corrosion.

Moving parts – Even though there are fewer moving parts on an electrical mower than on a gas-powered mower, it is important to keep them lubricated for proper operation. Prevent wear and tear by routinely lubricating axles, wheels, and other moving parts.

Blades – Your blades are the most important piece for a clean-cut lawn. Check your mower blades and sharpen them as needed. If your blades are dull, you risk damaging your grass and increasing your chance of disease.

As always, be sure to follow specific maintenance instructions included in your Operator’s Manual.

What are the pros and cons of an electric mower?

With any purchase, it is important to consider the pros and cons before making your final decision. Fully electric riding lawn mowers are the ideal solution for some properties, but not all.

Pros

Quiet operation – Electric mowers offer more silent operation than gas-powered mowers. The quieter operation makes them ideal for residential areas, as you will be less likely to disturb your neighbors. If you want to mow early in the morning without waking people up, this is an ideal feature.

Easy start – Electric mowers are quick and easy to start, with no manual choke.

Low maintenance – Electric mowers do not need gas or oil, meaning less maintenance than gas-powered lawn mowers. Without gas or oil, there is no need to change the oil or replace fuel and oil filters.

Cost-effective – Electric mowers are cheaper to maintain and operate in the long run due to fewer maintenance requirements.

Environmentally friendly – If lowering your carbon footprint is important to you, an electric lawn mower can help. Electric mowers are powered by batteries that do not emit harmful gases like gas-powered lawn mowers.

Cons

Initial cost – While cheaper to maintain in the long run, electric mowers are more expensive than gas-powered mowers when first purchased. An electric lawn mower is an investment in the beginning and might not be a feasible option for some.

Charging time – The lithium-ion batteries take several hours to charge and power your electric lawn mower fully, so it is important to always plan when you would like to mow so your battery can be fully charged.

Operating time – A fully charged battery only offers power for so long. If you have a large area to cover, your limited battery life might require recharging before you can complete mowing.

Limited availability – Electric lawn mowers are newer to the scene and not mass-produced yet like gas-powered mowers, making them not as easy to find and purchase. Finding accessories and replacement parts can be difficult as well.
