Did you know that every single sculpture in the ART PIECE collection is handmade by Mette Ditmer herself from a lump of clay? So, when you buy an ART PIECE, you're not just buying a beautiful statement piece - you're bringing a piece of our passion home with you. For Mette Ditmer it always begins with a thought idea or visualization for a new ART PIECE, and sometimes, but not always, it is transformed into a quick sketch as a basis for the actual crafting. The creation process of an ART PIECE is much more unstructured and different than designing textiles or other interior items since the development happens during the handcrafting by Mette herself. Sculpting from a lump of clay enables constant connection with the material, shaping it along the way. Sometimes, the initial idea requires some adjustments to feel just right, allowing the form to stand out and thus, a new ART PIECE is born.

The Future of Sculpture: Robots and Marble Italy's Carrara, a city that has been known for centuries as a source of precious marble to Michelangelo, sees a technology that would revolutionize sculpture art. At TorArt contemporary art studio, the latest project is Robotor, a robotic arm designed to revolutionize this ancient craft into a modern digital art form. This revolutionary invention uses a mechanical arm that houses diamond-tipped tools for high-performance carving of marble without compromise between speed and accuracy. The initial 3D model is transferred to the Robotor through the proprietary OR-OS software for a command sequence set for the robotic art. It further analyzes the marble block, determines the best strategy on how to proceed before starting to work with it. But with Robotor, it is also possible to program or adjust real-time feedback by skilled artisans. This opens a new gateway for human creativity and robotic precision to incorporate new possibilities into any sculptural design and execution. The advantages of such a technology are enormous. Robotor can work 24 h a day without getting tired and can complete more complicated sculptures in a fraction of time compared to traditional methods. For example, a replica of Terpsichore of Antonio Canova took about twelve days for the robot to carve. However, the entry of robotic sculpting has created ripples in the world of art. A few artists consider it a brilliant instrument that expands their capabilities, while others contend that it reduces the art form to a craft. However, amidst all the criticism, many contemporary artists are starting to embrace a technology that they see as a way of stretching the limits of sculptural practice. Robotor and similar technologies will go even beyond revolutionizing marble sculpturing. they'll contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage via the replica-making of historical artworks. Conclusion It likely marks the combination of tradition and the cutting edge, namely, robotization in marble sculpture; it will keep making the art refer to itself. Indeed, one can imagine a future of marble sculpture in which eternal beauty and craftsmanship will remain side by side with the fake precision and creativity offered by robots.
