Now that you know how to choose the most suitable diesel heater, the next step is installation.
If you’ve selected a diesel heater from a reputable company, it should work perfectly when installed correctly. To help you understand the installation process in detail, here are some key points to consider:
Diesel heaters typically come with detailed installation guides. However, vehicle sizes vary, as do the materials and construction techniques used. Let’s look at some important considerations that you need to address before completing your purchase. Discuss these with the salesperson or consult someone with professional knowledge and experience to ensure you’re making an informed decision. This is crucial for ensuring your heater functions properly in your vehicle.
Ensure the Heater’s Motor Impeller Doesn’t Touch the Heater Housing: This is vital to prevent damage and ensure smooth operation.
Heater Installation Location: There needs to be enough space around the heater for proper ventilation and maintenance access.
Distance Between Heater and Fuel Tank: The closer, the better, to minimize the risk of fuel line issues and improve efficiency.
Protection for the Vehicle’s Underside: Consider adding protection, like guards, to prevent damage from debris, such as stones kicked up by the tires.
Wiring Considerations: You need to fuse the lines to a 12V power source, and the cable size must be thick enough to handle the power requirements. All wiring should be well-protected and insulated to avoid short circuits or damage.
Thermostat and Control Switch Placement: These should be positioned for optimal efficiency and ease of access, allowing you to adjust the heater as needed.
Air Intake Placement: Install the intake away from the warm air outlets to maximize air circulation within the vehicle or truck cabin.
Multiple Ducts and Outlets: Consider whether you want multiple ducts, outlets, and zones and how they will be installed to distribute heat effectively.
Exhaust and Combustion Gas Direction: Ensure that the exhaust gases are vented away from windows, air vents, and other critical areas to maintain safety and comfort.
Exhaust Dust Control: Take the time to plan how to keep the exhaust free of dust when driving on dusty roads.

We understand that you may have many questions about diesel heaters. To help, we’ve compiled answers to some common queries. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us.
Can the heater keep the interior warm even in sub-zero temperatures?
Yes, you can set the desired temperature, and the heater will either stop working or reduce its power when the set temperature is reached, depending on your settings.
Will the diesel heater drain my vehicle’s battery?
The heater is powered by the vehicle’s battery. If the battery voltage drops below 8V (or 16V for a 24V heater), the heater will automatically stop working.
Can I use the diesel heater during warm seasons?
If the outdoor temperature is too high, the heater will automatically stop once it reaches the set temperature. When the temperature drops below the set point, the heater will resume operation. In summer, you can also use the ventilation feature, which provides fresh air to the cabin without heating, preventing air stagnation.
Does the diesel heater produce uncomfortable noise?
While the heater does produce some noise, it typically won’t disturb you or your neighbors. However, cheaper heaters may generate significant noise from diesel combustion, fuel pump ticking, and motor operation. If you experience excessive noise, consider upgrading to a quieter fuel pump or a higher-quality heater.
Is there a fire risk if I incorrectly repair the diesel heater as a DIY project?
For a skilled DIYer with good electrical knowledge, installing a diesel parking heater is manageable. The primary fire risk comes from electrical issues. Ensure the main power line to the heater is at least 2.5mm thick. Additionally, keep the heater’s exhaust outlet at least 20cm (7.8 inches) away from flammable materials. Follow all installation guidelines carefully, especially concerning the silencer and exhaust pipe.
Can I remove the diesel heater and reinstall it in another vehicle?
Yes, you can uninstall the heater and reinstall it in another vehicle. Make sure to keep all components intact. You might need to purchase additional accessories like air ducts or exhaust pipes for the new installation.
How does a diesel parking heater improve driving safety?
Statistics show that most accidents occur during winter, particularly within the first 15 minutes of driving. These accidents are often due to reduced visibility and slower reaction times caused by cold. Diesel heaters can effectively remove fog from windows, ensuring clear visibility. Driving in a warm vehicle also improves your reaction time, enhancing safety.
How long does it take to heat the engine and cabin with a diesel heater?
The time required depends on the vehicle size and ambient temperature. Air heaters usually take 20 to 30 minutes to warm the cabin, while diesel engine heaters typically require 30 to 45 minutes.
What is the maximum duct length I can use?
The exhaust pipe length should not exceed 2 meters, and the hot air outlet should also be within 2 meters.
How long does it take for the diesel heater to completely shut down after turning it off?
It usually takes about 4 minutes for the heater to fully shut down.
How do I choose the right installation location for the diesel heater?
The main factor influencing installation is the available space. Ensure there is good airflow around the heater, and the heater is installed in a well-ventilated area.
What simple maintenance can I perform on the diesel heater?
Run the heater at least once every four weeks for about 10 minutes, even during warm weather. Additionally, conduct a test run before the heating season begins.
Does the diesel heater need to be installed on a flat surface?
Yes, you should install the heater on a horizontal surface.
What is the recommended maintenance interval?
We recommend servicing the heater once a year, depending on its usage.
What’s the difference between a 5KW and an 8KW diesel heater?
Most heaters labeled as 8KW actually have the same power output as 5KW heaters, often around 3KW. We strongly question the reliability of products from companies that misrepresent their power ratings.

keep this heater outsideThe electronic control circuits are not protected against weather and the case is not sealed, so installing outside, unless in a protected enclosure, you may have issues. It will be difficult engineering the large diameter trunking between the interior and the inlet and outlet of the heater. Do not consider pulling outside air through the heat exchanger, it's intended to operate on a recycling mode.
Montana... cool! (no pun intended) We have property in Helena and a relative near Seeley Lake. Right now in Indiana and have diesel heater installed in garage with 5 gallon fuel can just below and to the side of it, sitting on the floor. Nothing fancy, but it works great and sips the fuel. It's designed to be inside, not sure why you would want it outside? With it inside it would be way more efficient. Agree with other user having concerns about -50 and diesel. If you have a diesel truck, you know what I'm talking about. Obviously you have to vent the unit to the outside. Let me know if you need a pic. I also have a CO detector for safety even though there is no smell whatsoever on the inside. Also, you do not have to pull fuel from the bottom even though tank is below the heater. The pump will suck it up just fine. I would strongly advise against gravity feed (safety issue). The diesel here has a winter additive added. We are in Lincoln
